The Banqueting Table:

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb

The invitation to divine love, intimacy and fellowship appears in the New Testament and is extended to believers today:
1. Revelation of Divine Love
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.”
This verse mirrors the “banqueting house” where the bride abides under the banner of love. Jesus invites His followers to remain in the intimacy of divine love, much like the beloved in Song of Solomon.

2. The Communion Table
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” This reflects the banquet and invitation into fellowship—a private, sacred meal with the Lord, similar to being brought into the “banqueting house.”

3. The Banner of the Cross
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” The “banner over me was love” finds a New Testament parallel in the cross, which becomes the ultimate banner of sacrificial love under which believers live and are protected.

4. Bridegroom Imagery
Jesus is often referred to as the Bridegroom, and believers as the bride. The Song of Solomon reflects this bridal intimacy and celebration of love, which is fulfilled in the New Covenant relationship.

Communion

knowing and communing with Him

Communion with Christ is shared life. To walk with Him is to enter a covenant that reaches beyond comfort and into consecration. The disciple who communes deeply with Jesus learns that intimacy is formed not only at the table of blessing, but also along the path of surrender—where love is proven faithful under pressure.

The fellowship of His sufferings is not an invitation to pain for pain’s sake, but to participation. In His crown of thorns, we see a Savior acquainted with rejection, misunderstanding, and weight-bearing love. At the cross, we behold a Bridegroom who chose faithfulness unto death, absorbing sorrow so union could remain unbroken. To commune with Him is to recognize that He does not ask us to walk where He has not already gone. In this sacred fellowship, the believer discovers a covenant deeper than circumstance—one that echoes the vow, “til death do us part.” Yet with Christ, even death does not divide. Our communion is sealed through suffering, sustained through trust, and strengthened through endurance. When we share in His sufferings, we are not abandoned; we are joined more closely to His heart.

Here, intimacy is refined. Love matures. Faith becomes anchored. Communion with Christ forms a union that neither hardship nor mortality can sever—because it is rooted in a love that has already passed through death and emerged victorious. To commune with Him is to say yes—not only in life, but through life—until death, and beyond.
